LALIQUE SOCIETY OF AMERICA, CLAIREFONTAINE, PERFUME BOTTLE w/BOX, LILAC STOPPER, c.1991
From Joan's collection. This Lalique design is called "Clairefontaine." It has been produced for many years with a clear stopper. However, this bottle, with a lilac stopper, was the first in a series of perfume bottles made by the Lalique Society of America for Lalique collectors and was produced for only one year. The stopper is molded with lily-of-the-valley flowers. The bottom of the bottle is acid-etched in block letters -- "LALIQUE SOCIETY OF AMERICA 1991" and "Lalique, France" in script letters. It has the original decal label on the front of the bottle. It also has its gray paper box with faux suede lining. The outside cover and inner cover lining are stamped "LALIQUE, PARIS." The bottom half of the box is also stamped on the outside -- "LALIQUE, SOCIETY OF AMERICA, 1991." When the bottle is displayed in natural, or incandescent light, the color will be lilac -- display it under florescent light and the color will change to a periwinkle blue!
Size: 4 1/8" h. Condition: Bottle, mint. Box, excellent -- slight age wear to edges and corners; front left corner appears to be split but is secure -- not open (see additional photos).

GILDED CRYSTAL, ENAMEL AND STERLING - ENGLISH SCENT / PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1830
This perfume / scent bottle was made by Matthew Linwood of Birmingham, England.* The bottle is crystal with an etched and gilded feathery design around the top edge. The mounting is sterling silver with a hinged cap. The back of the mounting collar is impressed with the maker's marks. The top of the cap is embossed and enameled with a red flower and 2 green leaves. The interior of the cap is gold-washed and has a number "8" impressed in the center. The mounting rim has a number "8" impressed on the surface. There is an inner glass stopper which is original to the bottle and very often missing on bottles this old. No markings on the bottom of the bottle. This is a very pretty bottle and worthy of a first-class collection.

*I am not expert in deciphering English silver hallmarks. If this bottle is not correctly identified, please do contact me (perf37@gmail.com) with the correct information. I would appreciate it - and so would the buyer!

Size: 3" h. x 15/16" w. Condition: Bottle excellent - no chips or cracks; no dents on cap; inner stopper has 3 large chips on head and sliver chip on side of stopper neck. Sliver chips on 2 flower petals and 1 on lower edge of right leaf - these are difficult to see, not glaring or distracting and do not detract from the beauty of the bottle (see additional photos).

UNGER BROTHERS STERLING MOUNT ATOMIZER, c.Early 1900s
This perfume bottle has a sterling silver mount made by Unger Brothers, a Newark, New Jersey company (1872-1914). The beautiful massive mount is a dragon of Art Nouveau style. The perfume comes out of the snout. The lower edge of the mount is stamped twice with the Unger Brothers mark – a U over a B. The mark appears to the left and right of the words "Sterling 925 Fine." Both marks are not very clear, but are Unger Brothers. One side of the mount is engraved with the initials "WCF." The bottle is intricately cut crystal of unknown origin (no markings on the bottom). A quality bottle worthy of a quality collection.
Size: 5 3/4" h. x 3 1/8" w. Mount height – 3 1/4". Condition: Mount – excellent. Bottle – excellent; 3 surface chips on the sides of high points; flakes on other high points that are difficult to see and even feel due to the sharp intricate cutting – could not be photographed due to excessive reflection. Bottle is in excellent condition considering it is – at the very least – 101 years old.

ATOMIZER, "ORIENTAL" MILK GLASS, CHINESE MAN, c.1883
From Joan's collection. This milk glass atomizer was sold by the F.M.Keeler Co., a Boston company. An 1880 ad identifies them as "Importers of Druggists' Sundries." The Chinese man sits on an inverted laundry tub with the word "ORIENTAL" in raised letters on the front of the tub. The bottle has all-over very detailed molding. The enameled solid pot metal head, with ball and cord queue, is attached to a metal siphon rod. The head is secured in the bottle with a cork sleeve inside the bottle neck. The cork was originally attached to the rod mechanism. There are threads on the rod indicating that the cork was, at one time, screwed on. The cork is still there and completely intact. There are no marks on the bottom of the bottle.

(Ref. Yesterday's Milk Glass Today, by Regis F. Ferson and Mary E. Ferson, Copyright 1981, Pittsburgh, PA, pg.96 (photo) item #491; pg.98 (text). Considered "rare.")

Size: 5 1/2" high x 2 1/2" wide (at base). Condition: Excellent - no cracks, 1 small sliver chip on outer edge of bottle neck, right arm has a transparent (almost clear) area. Metal head - excellent, no cracks or dents. Paint - excellent, normal age wear to nose, mouth and ears. Replacement ball and cord. This bottle is in fantastic condition - given its very long life of 133 years! See additional photos.

ATOMIZER, DECO, SCHAFER & VATER (S & V), GERMAN PORCELAIN PERFUME BOTTLE, c.Pre-1939
From Joan's collection. This striking deco head porcelain perfume atomizer bottle was made in Germany by Schafer & Vater. It is lilac-tinted bisque with green accent painting. Facial details are beautifully molded - eyelids, defined lips and teeth, finely formed nose with nostrils. The bottom is faintly impressed with a model number (4438) and a hand-painted number (36). Although this bottle does not bear the S&V logo - it is unmistakably Schafer & Vater. (See J717 for the companion Art Nouveau S&V head atomizer.)
Size: 5 1/8" high (pump opened); 4 1/4" high (pump closed). Condition: Excellent - no chips, cracks or repairs. Pump in working condition (push down and turn to close); shows age wear. See additional photos.

ATOMIZER, RARE CERAMIC MICKEY MOUSE w/PIE EYES, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1936
From Joan's collection. This rare Mickey Mouse ceramic atomizer perfume bottle is of unknown origin. He has "pie eyes" and painted metal ears. Mickey's gloves date him to around 1936. His head is removable and attaches to the body by a notched opening under his chin. The perfume would come out of hole below his pointed snout. There are no marks on the bottom of the bottle.

(Ref. The Crown Top Book, by Pauline E. Turco. pg.120. Sidebar on Mickey Mouse.)

Size: 4 3/4" high (to top of ears). Condition: Excellent - no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. Painted metal ears - excellent. No atomizer fitting - not uncommon for this bottle. In 22 years of collecting, I've seen only 3 examples of this bottle (in addition to this one) and none of them had the atomizer fitting or original ball. The black ball has been inserted (not permanently attached) in the head for aesthetic purposes. It is a good proportion for the head and completes and complements the entire bottle. See additional photos.

MINI CZECHOSLOVKIAN PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1920-1930s
Sweet molded glass Czechoslovakian mini perfume bottle in smokey gray glass. The glass stopper has an attached dauber. This bottle appears to be a Czech replica mini of the commercial Guerlain "Vol de Nuit" perfume bottle complete with the sunburst design on the front. The bottle comes in its original cardboard box. One side of the box is stamped, "Made in Czechoslovakia" in an oval and the notation, "Syracuse 1934". The other side of the box has a price ticket printed, "E.W. Edwards $ Son." My research shows that E.W. Edwards $ Son was a department store operating in Syracuse, New York, from 1905 to 1972. Special, unusual and rare Czech mini for your collection.

RARE MINI CZECHOSLOVKIAN PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1920-1930s
This listing is for a very special peach-colored mini perfume Czechoslovakian dresser bottle. It features a gold-tone metal filigree collar around the neck with three filigree "aprons" that rest on the shoulders of the peach polished base. Each of the aprons has an opaque peach cabochon set in the center. The stopper of the bottle is a frosted molded terrier dog's head. Molded animal heads mounted on metal caps or as ground stoppers are rare and seldom seen on the market. The stopper has an attached dauber. Etched on the bottom of the bottle is the word "Czecho Slovakia" enclosed in an etched oval. Despite the damage that is described in the "Condition" section below, this special mini, figural, Czech dresser bottle is a true treasure. Sold as is.

Reference: Perfume Bottles for Purse and Dresser from Czechoslovakia 1920s-1930s, Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. 2006, by Verna Kocken, page 113.

Size: 2 1/8" h. Condition: The figural dog-head stopper and dauber are in excellent condition. The filigree decoration and stones are also in excellent condition. However, this precious pup has suffered "abuse" at the human hands of a previous owner! The stopper is frozen, and in a attempt to pry the stopper out of the neck of the bottle, they caused a "V" chip and a shallow sliver chip to the top surface of the neck and a small sliver chip on the side surface of the neck. (Note: The black lines seen inside the bottle neck are actually pencil writing and not cracks.) The chips are mostly covered by the filigree collar and the stopper itself. The bottle displays very well. I have tried to show this damage in the additional pictures that can be viewed by clicking on the gallery picture. Valued at $350-$450 in Verna's book referenced above, this bottle is priced accordingly, given its less than mint condtion.

VINTAGE SPUN GLASS TULIP SCENT BOTTLE, c. 1940s-1950s
Pretty spun-glass scent bottle (possibly an Irice and Co. import) from the 1940s-1950s. This scent bottle has a squatty, clear-glass square base with an interesting spun-glass stopper. According to the internet, spun glass is created by heating glass rods of varying diameters to the melting point and artistically manipulating the molten glass on the ends of the rods into beautiful shapes and objects. Spun glass is not the same as blown glass. The stopper of this bottle is shaped as a blue tulip with two green long leaves. There may have been a glass dauber attached to the neck of the stopper, but it appears to have been broken off.
Size: 3 5/8" h. Condition: Excellent, but no dauber.

REVLON, CHARLIE, APPLE, PERFUME SOLID PENDANT, c.1973
This Revlon, Charlie, apple solid is made of silver-colored metal -- possibly chrome -- very heavy. The top section unscrews. There is quite a bit of the original fragrance. The perfume is a very dark green -- don't know whether it's the original color or whether it has darkened with age. In the photos, it appears that the top is shiny and the bottom is matte, but the entire container is shiny silver.
Note -- Avoid removing the cover. It is difficult to screw back on and can become cross-threaded.
Size: 1 1/2" h. x 1 3/8" w. (at widest part). Condition: Good, but with some dings around the lower section -- they look a lot worse in the photos than they actually are when you see it (see additional photos). No chain.
